# Dashboard Companion

Dashboard Companion lets you sit at a live Insula you already own, from the signed-in website. You see the same files, agent, and tools as that process. It is not a share link, and it is not [Insula Network](/wiki/10-insula-network) file transfer.

Open it at **Companion** on your Insula Labs dashboard after you sign in.

## Off unless you turn it on

A [paid plan](/wiki/09-subscriptions) unlocks Companion. Web Companion still starts **off** for every account, including people who already pay.

Signing in does not turn it on. Paying does not turn it on either. Insula Labs does not serve Companion for your processes until you enable Web Companion yourself.

## The hard cutoff

The switch on the Companion page is the account-level stop.

While it is **off**, Insula Labs has disabled the services and routes that support Companion for your account. Turning it off during a session ends that seat. This is not a hidden button. Companion from the dashboard does not start.

If you would rather keep Companion off the website, leave the switch off. That is the safe default.

## Turning it on

Paid users flip **Web Companion** on that page. The first step is to read and accept the [Terms of Service](/terms). You accept Terms again every time you go from off to on.

After that, Insula Labs serves Companion for your processes and you pick a running Insula on the same account. That process must be online.

## Your machines still decide

Each install can **Allow**, **Ask**, or **Deny** Companion on the device. Ask is the default: the machine prompts before anyone takes the seat. Deny refuses Companion on that process.

The website switch sits in front of that. While Web Companion is off, those prompts do not arrive. The device settings are a second layer for when you have chosen to use Companion from the dashboard.

## Who can use it

- Paid or enterprise on the account
- The same account that signed in the process
- A process that is online and willing

Free accounts see Companion in the dashboard as a paid feature only. They cannot enable the switch.
